Is WhatsApp coming up with ads?

If yes, It will be the biggest revolution in the digital marketing industry!
With 1 billion daily active users Whatsapp is the most used social platform with a humongous penetration of 1.5 billion accounts all over the world, Whatsapp would prove to be the best online marketing platform due to its amazingly vast reach and ease of accessibility!

As per one of its managers, WhatsApp is to begin filling its “status” feature with Ads.
The ads will be in addition to the WhatsApp Business API which was launched by the company in August. WhatsApp charges these businesses for using the platform to reach out to their customers.

“We are going to be putting ads in ‘Status’. That is going to be primary monetization model for the company as well as an opportunity for businesses to reach people on WhatsApp,” said Chris Daniels.
“Currently, we’re approaching monetization in two ways. In August, we launched the WhatsApp Business API, which enables large companies like MakeMyTrip to send information like tickets to users on WhatsApp. Businesses pay to send those messages,” Daniels told Economic Times paper.

It Seems to be a perfect move from a business point of view as the application was not creating any income but, it sucks from a users viewpoint since it implies you will get undesirable advertisements while checking your friends WhatsApp.

Before Facebook procured the organization in 2014, WhatsApp was emphatically against running ads on their platform. what do you think would be users reaction on ads? Would it irritate users and lead to a decrease in the usage of the app or it would prove to be a big success?
